What’s in a moonbag?

Moonbags are everywhere at the moment its around every hip in different shapes, forms, colours and textiles and I’m here for it!

At first I was a bit hesitant about getting one for myself because for very long it was only tourists and old people that was wearing them and they were still known as fanny packs. The first ones I saw still looked like the fanny packs from back in the day and I was thinking, nah this ain’t it. But as the trend grew I started seeing how it evolved and became more modern and it was actually a really stylish but also functional accessory.

I started carrying what I refer to as my man purse a few years ago because when I saw it I fell in love with it and secondly I hate the bulges that a wallet or a phone makes in the front of your pants, when they’re in your pockets and I like wearing my pants a tight as possible. So I carried my wallet and it was also very stylish and functional. It was compact but also big enough to carry my cards, phone, lip balm and even my power bank. The problem with it was that I always had something in my hand. It was a little inhibiting. I could never just get up and go. There was a few times I forgot it on the church bench or at a friend’s house. On two occasions I had to come all the way from Paarl back to Athlone to fetch my wallet. The moonbag is a great solution for my problem. Its attached to my body so I can’t leave it somewhere and both of my hands are free.

3 months ago, I was scrolling through Superbalist as I usually do when I’m bored and I saw this one. It was perfect it suited my style like it was made for me. It was plain black leather with the zips, simple, just the way I like it. I immediately took a screenshot and sent it to my friend and told her how much I love it. Whenever I see clothing I like it’s an occasion that I must share with someone. I can’t just keep it to myself. I clicked add to cart and left it there for a week or so before I eventually checked it out. I bought it and I took it with me when I went on holiday. While I was on holiday I took pictures and posted them on my social media and one guy told me he likes my moonbag and asked me what exactly I carry in it.

So, let’s take a look inside my moonbag.

Clockwise I have sunglasses which is just a must in my opinion. I have a pen in there. Its just a teacher habit. You always need a black pen for something when you’re a teacher. Waterless hand sanitier has become a necessity with recent water restrictions. Lip balm is essential! Guys please its 2018 we cannot be walking around with chapped lips. Lip balm goes with me everywhere I go. I have hand cream in there for the same reason as the lip balm. Hand sanitiser can be harsh on your skin and make your hands looking ashy. My power bank is very important you never know when you might need it. Then of course my phone, that doesn’t need any explanation. Bubble gum to keep my breath fresh and last but most importantly my wallet for obvious reasons. I also put some other stuff in there like headache tablets and sinus meds in spring.

After telling him all this  he said that its basically an emergency kit and I said YES! You need to be prepared for anything at all times. I don’t know how guys have survived walking around with just a phone and a wallet all these years. Now you see everybody wearing a moonbag and I wonder what some of these tough guys carry in theirs.
